Stadsbiblioteket Göteborg reads Infinite Jest

Många har försökt och de som lyckats säger att det är bland det bästa dom gjort, även om det tagit år att genomföra. För den otålige som känner att hen vill läsa boken men anar att hen kommer att ge upp läsningen utan draghjälp erbjuder vi nu en bokcirkel på Facebook där vi under 11 veckors tid gemensamt läser och diskuterar denna fantastiska bok, men som också är MYCKET svår att avsluta. Boken som ej är översatt till svenska läses på engelska.

Reynolds, our librarian who will lead the group discussions, says:

Twenty years ago, one of the most important novels published in the last fifty years was published.  David Foster Wallace’s Infinite Jest is a seminal novel that weighs in at just over 1000 pages (with copious endnotes) about addiction, entertainment, the commercialization of pretty much every aspect of life which takes place in the unspecified ‘near future.’

It is a very, very difficult book to finish.  It’s like running a marathon. No, it’s like running an ultra-marathon. Many have tried and failed. I have personally tried three different times to read this giant brick of a novel and have thrown in the towel each time. So we’re going to borrow a concept from the States and attempt to wrestle this beast to the ground and finish it, together, at 75 pages a week. Through the Stadsbibliotekets Facebook page we will start a supportgroup: Stadsbiblioteket Göteborg reads Infinite Jest.

Get the book from us, join the group, and get started. We’re going to start posting at the end of week 42, and post once a week from there, for the next 11 weeks, until we have finished it.
